This cheerful, inviting store has been open for five weeks.  It is quite simply a collaboration of artisans selling a wide selection of unique items, 90% of which are created by local people. Everything is hand-made and there is jewellery, cards, paper goods, all sorts of ornaments in many different mediums, pictures, ceramics, fragrances – to name but a few.

The aim of the collaboration is to enable artisans to build small businesses. Denise said that for some sellers this is the first time they have ventured to sell on the open market. Because each item is hand-made, hours of time go into each creation and the essence of the maker goes into every item. Crafting is good for mental health; the move from making to selling is a big one and is confidence building for the individuals. The store also unites different creators, for example in the creation of special cards to accompany jewellery. An idea which particularly pleased me was cards incorporating flower seeds; one creator had created the cards, and a jewellery maker was selling earrings attached to them. When the earrings were removed the card could be planted. There are also flower seed greeting cards on sale. This is just one of many bright and beautiful ideas.

The welcome you will get from Denise and Tony is delightful and will brighten your day. They have many ideas for the future including craft workshops on a Sunday which will be tutored by crafts people, many of whom sell in the shop. Denise and Tony also have plans for special events for Halloween and Christmas which they plan will unite other traders in Antelope Walk.

To say this is a bright, cheerful shop with lots of interesting, different things to see, is underselling it. It benefits so many people on so many different levels.  Well done Denise and Tony!
